SEAN !!!!
There is a G-I-A-N-T Macgregor website. Loads of great stuff there also. Not sure of the exact website name, maybe someone here could help you out. BTW, the easier you make your boat to handle, the MUCH more you will use it. Just the roller furling alone will be a God-send when single handing. If its really blowing and you are having a blast but got to tack and are afraid of genny hanging on your rigging, just furl it in a bit, then tack, it will clear your shrouds a lot easier.I think you have the right approach to entering the world of sailing. No matter what questions you ask, opinions will vary greatly. Just sort through them and you will figure out what is best for you.Probably the best references would be to look at the boats in marinas in your area and see whateveryone else is doing with their boats of similar size. Ex: When I was on northern coast of Gulf of Mexico, most Catalina 30's were using a 150 genny. When i was in south Texas, down near Corpus Christi, nearly all the Catalina 30's were using a 130 or 135 Genny. The determining factor was the average wind speed in each area. In summer, Ms. and La....little to no wind. South Tx. coast...always windy. After some experience with your RF, please let us know your honest opinion.
