SEAN !!!!

There is a G-I-A-N-T Macgregor website. Loads of great stuff there also. Not sure of the exact website name, maybe someone here could help you out. BTW, the easier you make your boat to handle, the MUCH more you will use it. Just the roller furling alone will be a God-send when single handing. If its really blowing and you are having a blast but got to tack and are afraid of genny hanging on your rigging, just furl it in a bit, then tack, it will clear your shrouds a lot easier. I think you have the right approach to entering the world of sailing. No matter what questions you ask, opinions will vary greatly. Just sort through them and you will figure out what is best for you. Probably the best references would be to look at the boats in marinas in your area and see whateveryone else is doing with their boats of similar size. Ex: When I was on northern coast of Gulf of Mexico, most Catalina 30's were using a 150 genny. When i was in south Texas, down near Corpus Christi, nearly all the Catalina 30's were using a 130 or 135 Genny. The determining factor was the average wind speed in each area. In summer, Ms. and La....little to no wind. South Tx. coast...always windy. After some experience with your RF, please let us know your honest opinion.

Thanks TonyB

Yeah, this forum is a wonderful way to learn from other people's personal experiences. It really helps to see what people look for and what they have seen before setting out and getting something that's not going to do what I need it to do. I can't believe how many sources there are for Macs online. I need to register with the http://www.macgregorsailors.com, and I've gotten a lot of ideas from the web ring, http://www.tompatterson.com/Sailing/webring/webring.html and http://www.macgregor-boats.com/ as well as many, many others! But I think my favorite is: http://drink.allrecipes.com/az/Mjit.asp :D bottom's up, and thanx again!!! I'll let you konw how it goes... -Sean

Roller furl "Smiles"

Walk down a marina dock and look objectivly at the furls. They all have a 'smile' loose and NOT rigged properly, but no one seems willing to admit to this phenomena, kinda like the interest on our credit-cards that no one admits to paying...lol. At least with a wire stay it can be tightened up, rigged properly, and in a blow you can get the sucker down. Roller furlers in a blow can be an awesome problemo, but are fine for lazing round a bay. "And that's all I got tuh say 'bout that" Forest Gump...;-)
