Used sail questions

The Chrysler 26 has a very short boom (eight feet)with the backstay some distance aft. First question: Would you buy a sail from a used sail warehouse? Two: There are some nice buys out there for mainsails to fit my boom but the luft is rope and they have five full battens with a lot of roach. I would have to put slugs on the luff. Bottom line is this a good investment and would it work well for my boat. The sails are stated to be in excellent condition and less than half the cost of a new sail. The sails are off an Eagle cat.

Find a

...sail loft and ask their opinion of the condition and shape of the main. They know what to look for. Slugs are very easy to add so that shouldn’t be the deal breaker.

More sail area in a larger roach?

Would a mainsail with a larger roach change the balance of the boat that was designed for a smaller square foot of sail.

Probably very Little

Just out of curiosity I have taken the main sail off of a 15 foot catamaran and put in on a MAC 21. I honestly could not tell a lot of difference except it was slower. I have also switched sails between a Gulf Coast 21 and a MAC 23. Again not a lot of difference.
