I have the opportunity to buy a Crosby combination 110V and engine compressor system from a 1979 CSY44. It is in excellent shape and at a good price, I think. Can you (Phil?) or anyone give me some advice on whether this is a good system? Did it work well as a CSY44 standard installation in those days?

My second post (forgot)!

I forgot that I had posted an earlier question and Phil did reply. Phil, I'll try to phone you tomorrow, but I just want a basic read about this type of system. Assuming it was, as you said, charged, etc. when it was removed, is it a basically good system? Did it work well when originally sold?

The system worked great on the CSY 44. The trick is in the installation though. If it is not done just right it will fail. There is no way I can tell you if it is a good value, nor can any one else without performing some basic refrigeration tests. Engine driven refrigeration systems are a thing of the past and do not provide the best value in marine refrigeration any longer. A well insulated box with a good DC refrigeration system can provide just as good cooling for a fraction of the original cost. As in any purchase decission you must determine what is best for your situation. Good luck and if you need any more help with the Crosby please let me know. Phil
