While I know the proper use of the centerboard while sailing... Can anyone offer advice on its use at slow speeds when docking? I would assume that dockside depths permitting, you would want to use as much centerboard as possible in high winds / low current situations... but what about opposite or mixture of situations? Thanks, Darren

Centerboard

The centerboard prevents you from sliding sideways in the water. You will have better control and sail closer to the wind with the board down. The only times I raised my centerboard was sailing in thin water or when heeling excessively. In high wind situations when you are heeling a lot, you can raise the centerboard. That allows the boat to slip some to the side and reduce heeling.

Lifting the center board

When I'm running down wind I raise my center board about half way. Helps alittle in light winds. Of course this in my little boat a 12 ft Skimmar SG.

Board

If you have enough water at your dock I would dock with the board down. The boat will turn tighter around the board. I would disagree with raising the board to reduce heal. If sailing close to the wind the board should be down. To reduce heal reef.
