Hi Peggy
After 8 months on our new boat with a Jabsco toilet with an extremely noisy electric conversion kit fitted by the dealer, we now have a water leak in thru the non-return valve gland which we cannot fix:cussing:. We have decided to fill the toilet full of concrete and send to to the bottom! This would have to be the worst product ever! We are going to use the electric conversion kit as a fire warning siren in our local town! Any suggestions for a replacement?:)

If you had asked her advice prior to getting the Jabsco, she would have warned you away from them. :)

Yes, sailing dog, I've had them before and wouldn't have had another by choice. Unfortunately it came with the boat - no choice! :) What would you recommend as a replacement?

I am with you Brother...Jabsco installed by the PO...leaks like a sieve around the base. I might as well pee in the bilge.

Did you want electric or manual?

Manual is easy... Raritan PHC/PHII or a Lavac. :) Electric is a bit more difficult, as it depends on your budget... but I believe that Peggie's been recommending the Raritan SeaEra as a budget electric macerating head. While she does generally recommend the PHII, she doesn't like the PHEII, which is the electric version of the PHII... and junk as I understand it.

Keep your bowl, seat and lid

You can save quite a bit of money by "recycling" 'em to use with a new better quality conversion.

If you want a manual toilet, your best choice would be the Raritan PH II or PHC The part #s for the conversions are PHIILBA and PHCLBA.

If you want an electric toilet, the Raritan SeaEra is the best "bang for the buck." However, all electric toilets that use sea water are gonna noisy--though not as noisy as the Jabsco 29020--'cuz contrary to popular misconception, it's not the macerator and discharge pump that makes all the noise, it's the intake pump. So if you want a quiet toilet, it has to be one designed to use pressurized fresh water... 'cuz they don't have intake pumps, they have solenoid valves. The SeaEra is available as a complete toilet or as a conversion, in both sea water and fresh water versions.

You can check out the PH II, PHC and all the versions of the SeaEra here: http://www.raritaneng.com/products/toilets/index.html The sbo.com store here has the best prices.

PHII

I took my Head Mate out of my 2007 H-36 after two years and put in a PHII
and love it,it works so easy for every one.
I did make it work with a fresh water sprayer and the sink drain into it for flushing instead of salt water but it can use salt water if out long period of times.
If you want electric my dock neighbor had a Vacuflush that was the cats Meow and a lot of power boats use them too.

Thank you all for the advice. I'm in Australia and I know the Raritans out here are very expensive. We have used a brand called TMC here before with a lot of success. Has anyone heard of it? It uses salt water flushing but is less noisy than the Jabsco. We are only a small boat and have limited fresh water, so don't want to waste it down the head.

I'm familiar with TMC...

Like Jabsco, they're a "budget" brand...and the quality is not much, if any, better than Jabsco.

Raritan products do indeed cost a lot in OZ, but they're worth it IMO...'cuz they're made to last 20+ years or even longer with only minimal maintenance. So which really costs less--a $!00 toilet you have to replace every couple of years? Or a $500 you won't have to replace for as long as you're likely to own the boat and then some?

I suggest you ask your local dealer to give you a price (he may have to call Raritan to get it) for a PH II or PHC "conversion"...which is everything but the bowl, seat and lid. If your dealer denies that it exists, give him these part #s and tell him to contact Raritan: PHIILBA and PHCLBA

Re: PHII

I have a Jabsco manual at the moment. Does anyone know if this Raritan model fits over the same bolt holes as my Jabsco? Or, do I have to drill new holes?

Thanks
Al

Thanks Peggy. I will certainly ask the question. I would also like to know if the conversion will fit the current holes. However, a bit of flowcoat would cover the current ones with a little bit of effort. Thank you for your help, it's really appreciated and now I think we're going to take your advice and go the Raritan conversion. Next time we're in the U.S. we'll give you a call and put our heads together:)

You'll have to drill at least a couple new holes.

The mounting bolt patterns are never identical from one brand to another...in fact, can change from one model year to another of the same brand/model as mfrs restyle 'em.

I would fill ALL the holes and drill new ones, just to make sure the mounting bolts for the new toilet are good tight no-wobble fit.
