It just shows how ignorant americans are becoming!!!!!!! Dumping water into your tank is a bad thing. Dumping two-cycle oil into your tank doesn't hurt. I've done it a long time. Two-cycle oil is designed to burn well in an engine without fouling anything. Sure running a tank ful of 25:1 two cyle oil will smoke as it will in a two cycle . But look if you are starting with 50:1 and then dilute a couple of gallons into a tank full of say 20 gallons that oil is diluted to 500:1. No engine is so sensitive that it can detect 500:1 oil!!!! But I've ran staight 50:1 gas in my lawnmower after the 50:1 sat in the garage all winter with no ill effects. Again 2-cycle oil is designed to burn clean otherwise you would have to change the spark plugs too often. During the break in period my out board manual recommends 25:1 oil mix and it smokes more but no fouled plugs...at 25:1!!!!!!!!
As you can see from all the definitive answers below, the answer to your question remains cloudy. What I like to do when boating is to mix the approximate amount of gas/oil for the expected trip and also carry a spare can of unmixed gas and extra oil. Af the end of the boat trip add a little stabalizer in what remains in the mixed fuel before shuting outboard engine down, and later pour the unmixed gas into the auto. RK
engine that burned a quart of oil for each tank of gas. That thing laid down a fog of blue smoke everywhere I went. Ran it like that for two years before I finally got rid of it.
