The b hauler is attache to a stanchion bale or the toe rail forward of the shrouds. The snatch block on the jib sheet can deflect the angle of the sheet as if on a track. I have attached a rather lame drawing. On the Bristol, the genoa track is on the toe rail and did not run far enough forward. There is a fixed block on the deck for a working jib. When rolling up the jib between 135% and 100% the b hauler is useful. In the old days before we had roller furling, when setting a heavy weather jib or storm jib we would use the working jib block on the deck and the b hauler.PT, I don't understand this description at all. "Bring the block forward..." To where? A picture or a more detailed description would be very helpful.
It is simple and cheap. With some tweeking, you can get a very good sail shape, and no holes in the deck.
