USCG Documentation Renewal SCAM???

I received a letter from U.S. Vessel Documentation for the renewal of my documentation expiring 5/31/17. The letter looked like it was from the USCG with its own seal but it did not say USCG. The fee for their renewal was $75.00. I checked with USCG and the fee is still $26.00 and they could not comment when I asked if the letter from U.S. Vessel Documentation was a scam.

I received the same letter. Said my doc was to expire within 45 days when it actually expires on May 31. Went to their website: https://uscgdocumentation.us/. They charge $75.00 to do what we have been doing all along for free but that was changed to $26.00 last year. I believe this may be a third party company. I would just ignore it.

I got one saying that because we forgot to renew, the late fee was going to be $400.00. I called the Documentation Center and they said we were current on our documentation. Total scam.

I just got two notices in the mail. I know that any official will come from a .gov domain. I did renew early to get paperwork to marina, they only wanted the state registration not the CG docs. What pissedme off is it was due to expire beginning of May, but new do snow expire end of Feb. I lost 3 months of the yearly fee!!! If this keeps up it will keep moving back a month or so every time I renew
