I have to jump into Mr. Peabody's Way-Back machine for these memories. In the mid '70s I was lucky enough to take the helm of the Bark (barque) Eagle out of Mobile AL. We gave 3rd year Academy cadets aviation indoctrination at AVTRACEN Mobile and the commander of the Eagle, I believe his name was Captain Irwin (?), came for a ride along on an Hu-16 Albatross (goat). I gave him the controls for a little while and he offered me the controls of his craft. I did have to reschedule my wife's birthday but when it came to sailing she understood. Come to think of it her and I won a lot of races back in that time. The last time I was aboard was 2004 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ran into the Officers in a pub. Never got away from the dock that time. A fine ship, she is. Surely there is a USCG Academy grad on these forums with a good story.
