In a previous thread Ken from Calif sujested I go to the Coast Guard MIC search link.. I've been told that the HIN code for O'Day Mfg is XDY appears in the beginning of the HIN # I have looked on my bill of sale, previous owners registration and the HIN # in the upper starboard transom and everything I see about the HIN # on my new to me 222 1986 O'Day says SURK. Now when I plug these letters on to the Coast Guard link it says that my O'Day was made by Performance Catamarans in Santanna Calif. Did other boat Mfg produce O'days?/ http://www.boatsafe.com/links/index.htm Could I own a west coast O'Day ???

This IS interesting

Hmmmmm. You may have noticed from the other thread that the HIN for my O'day 192 also starts with "SUR". The literature that came with my boat indicates that it was built by Lear-Siegler: "Builders of Cal Yachts, O'day Yachts and Prindle Catamarans". So there is a catamaran connection - do you suppose that a second set of molds was made so that boats could be built on the West Coast? Or perhaps parts were molded on the East Coast and shipped in bulk for final assembly in California? I did do a google search on "O'day sailboats built in California" and didn't see anything pertinant but digging further might reveal some facts. Maybe Rudy knows?
