Does a vessel need to have US Coast Guard documentation for travel outside the US to Canada, Bahamas, Caribbean Islands or is a State registration (Wisconsin) sufficient? I am looking at trucking my H37C sailboat to Florida from WI, back and forth, for a 4 to 5 month cruise in the islands. Richard

Documentation

Is no longer needed for travel in this hemisphere. Your state registration is adequate.

As the original poster indicated,...

...it isn't needed for international check-in, but it will make the process a lot easier to do. But you will need a passport to get back into the country.

Watch Your Time in Florida

No matter if is documented or not if you, (actually your boat) spend I think it is ninety consecutive days in Florida you will need a Florida registration as well. Not the numbers on the bow just the sticker.
