Going down the East River is a unique experience. Helicopters, sea planes, subways overhead, traffic along the FDR Drive. A truly unique way to experience NYC. I've been through it several times, always a treat.

Seeing lower Manhattan from the water at night is spectacular.

Going offshore to Norfolk or up Delaware Bay and down the Chesapeake?

Offshore to Norfolk. We sailed overnight and ducked through the channel at Cape May to avoid the rollers across the mouth of Delaware Bay.

So your trekking down the inside (Chesapeake Bay)? Opens up th opportunity to visit Annapolis. I like the ambiance of the inner harbor. You get to park your boat right down town.

Nope, went offshore to get a lovely view of Atlantic City. Annapolis will have to wait for another trip.

We're continuing south to Norfolk along the coast. Conditions have been pleasant, not too much rolling. They look to remain consistent. We should arrive in Newport News around noon.

Making good time. The Gulf Stream is well off shore. You have a following wind /wave/ and southern back current which will help sweep you in around Cape Charles. Mother Nature is singing sweet songs to you.

Interesting comment about taking the Cape May channel to avoid the offshore rollers crossing Delaware Bay. I think that's what threw off @jssailem with his misunderstanding that you were traveling up the Delaware. I'd never heard that route as a means of avoiding discomfort offshore as you traverse across Delaware Bay.
