I just finished replacing the spreaders and all standing rigging on my 1980 C-30. I used the replacement spreader kit from Catalina Direct. While working on the tensioning, I noticed an oddity. If I stand on the starboard side dock and sight along the upper shroud, the shroud is nearly straight with respect to the mast until it reaches the spreader and then angles slightly forward. I would estimate about 2-3 degrees. If I stand on the port side dock and sight along the upper shroud, the shroud is nearly straight with respect to the mast until it reaches the spreader and then angles astern at a substantially sharper angle than the starboard side. I would estimate about 8-10 degrees. Using a Loos Gauge, the tension on the shrouds is nearly equal port and starboard. Also, sighting along the mast from port, starboard and the bow, the mast appears to be straight. This leaves me with two question: 1) Does it matter? and 2) What, if anything, can I do about it?
