Hello – I need some help.. ive been working on this problem for about a month.. I guess its time to ask for help.. Issue: Trying to get PC to work with RL70.. at a min, I want to send waypoint data back and forth. AND I did not want to purchase Raytech software. Parts: PC, RL70 (came with boat in 2000), Seatalk conversion box, C-map reader, Maptech software, Garmin software, various gps utilities, hyperterm What I have done so far: 1.Bought cmap reader.. eventually found out I need to upgrade rl70 software.. so threw that solution out. 2.Next.. I bought the seatalk/nmea box .. hooked it up.. Symptoms: are seatalk LED light on.. in hyperterm.. I am able to see all kinds of inbound transmissions.. in maptech using furno settings.. software inits fine.. gets my lat/lon.. then I do an import or export.. goto rl70..hit (mark) send/rev.. does nothing.. Is the bottom line I need to have raytech support to send waypoints to rl70 ? or do I have a setting or two off..Or is there some other nice piece of non raymarine software I need ? Thanks for your help.. I greatly appreciate it. /Paul u17pjg@hotmail.com

Furuno ?

Why do you use the Furuno setting on your Maptech software? I use Fugawi not Maptech but it has a GPS type setting for Raymarine, Furuno, Garmin, etc. The NMEA sentences sent by the software are proprietary for things like uploading waypoints. So the RL70 would not understand the Furuno sentences. The proprietary sentences start with $P followed by some identifier for the manufacturer, for instance $PFE.. is Furuno and $PGR.. are Garmins. Your software would undersatnd the non-proprietary sentences (start with $GP) that have the logitude and latitude that's why you can see lat/long on Maptech even though it is set for Furuno.
