Hello, this should be pretty simple. I'm hoping someone has gone this same exact upgrade and can help. It's identifying my old gear and helping me match it up to new Evolution Autopilot and p70. My goal here is to be able to get the wind/vane data to p70 to use Vane Mode.

1. I know the depth and speed are Seatalk, but not sure about wind/vane display instrument. The p70 said it understands seatalk and seatalkng in the specs, if these devices are seatalk1 can I simply use a cable to connect them to the backbone via spur and get wind/vane data to use the vane mode on p70?

2. Please see my diagram with boat and photos. There is a black cable leaving the three displays towards my helm. It leaves displays black and arrives at my helm white and with only two conductors +/-. Somewhere in between it changes color with a butt joint or something. ...or does it hit another device? These two conductors were plugged into the positve and negative poles of a seatalk port on a st4000+. This is where it was getting it's power, but was it communicating data over just those two ports? This is what I'm asking??? Because it's all unclear. My goal is to run a new direct line from a seatalk port diectly to the sealtalkng backbone. Am I correct in thinking that this is where the displays over my galley will get power from and send vane info to my p70?

3. I also have an old c70 and gps. I'd like to get that in line too if possible for waypoints. right now it is the three seatalk color wires going directly from gps to c70. These three wires used to land on the old st4000+ on a seatalk port. (the positive and negative were peeled off and landed on the nmea port of the st4000+???) Please help me understand this. There is no radio in the old chain. Is there anything using NMEA?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. THNX

I am not sure about your wiring set up but here are a few basics.
1. Raymarine has a forum and the moderator can help you.
2. When connecting the old Raymarine back bone to new backbone (P70, etc) you need a seatalk converter. They cost about $100.
3. I am not sure what backbone your C70 needs and if it is compatible with the new backbone. It might be you cannot connect a new P70 into your system if your C70 is not compatible with the new backbone. I am definitely not the expert here.
4. Go to Raymarine forum for the correct answers.

Ok, to get everything to work, you need to wire your wind, speed & depth xducers to a ITC -5. This will put your sensors on the STng bus, which connects to the pilot.
Then, you need to connect a STNg -t1 converter. The st1 output of this will feed your instruments.
If you don't do the conversions properly, the pilot will not work.
