Hello experienced O'Day sailers. I've been an O'Day sailor of a 222 for two summers now and have the itch to move up to a 25. I am thinking I want more head room in the cabin than the 4 feet of a 222 but I love the 222. I'm looking for some thoughts from you all on this - is the larger boat going to be more work/maintenance harder to single sail. I have found a good 25 for $1500 but have to find a trailer. And finally, does anyone have any drawings/photos on setting up a trailer for a 25. Thank you in advance for your ideas and thoughts...Randall in Tennessee

I went from and O’day 22 to a O’day 240 for the same reason, headroom. The 240 is just 2 inches shorter then the 25. I cant say there was anymore maintenance requirements. I never regretted the decision. Better headroom and performed better. I now own a Precision 28 and sometimes miss the simplicity of my 240.
Thanks "Spooled Again". I have actually been looking into the 240 thinking it might be not hardly as big as the 25 and yet give me the headroom I want. I believe the 240 lists headroom of 5' 10". And I understand the simplicity factor. My 222 is easy to handle by myself but not sure that will be the case with the 25. Thank you for your info.
I would say the headroom in the 240 is more like 5’8. It was great for me but I’m only 5’6. The enclosed bathroom is also a nice feature.
My 25 with furling jib was very easy to single handle and I enjoyed the simple systems it had.
I did rig it with main halyard and reefing lines brought back to the cockpit. One easy and big improvement I made was to install a down haul line on the main sail. When bringing the sail down, the down haul would hold the luff to the boom. I could stand in the companionway and put one sail tie on the back part of the sail. That would hold it fine until I got back to the slip.
I'm 6' and had to stoop a little in the 25.
I think single handing has more to do with how the boat is set up than size.

Had my 25 for 7 years now and its very roomy inside, but I still have to stoop a little and I'm 5'10". Easy to sail if you don't over do the amount of sail you have up. Last night in 20 MPH plus some gusts we had one reef in the main and 50% of a roller furlering 144% jib going upwind and it was a little too much. But it was a race.

When we were feeling lazy it would sail well with jib only. In higher winds when we wanted to keep the boat flat, we would sail with reefed main only.
Thank you for all your responses. I am struggling over getting a trailer to haul this 25 that I am looking at. I have found a good trailer but I must set it up for a 25. Does anyone currently have a trailer they use on their 25 so they could measure the length of the bunk supports. This way it would at least get me started to set up a length close to what I can use to at lease get close. I am pondering how I would get the boat our of the water onto the trailer without have the bunks set at least close. Any suggestions?
