Upgrade from 23.5 to 28.5

I have a 1994 23.5 and have been thinking about a bigger boat. I was contacted about a 1988 28.5. I own my 23.5 free and clear, I really want a bigger a boat. Is the 1988 28.5 a step back or forward. I have enjoyed responses from others here and would like to get some good feedback. I do not trailer my 23.5. The trailer has sat in my backyard for three years. I hauled the boat last month and re-did the bottom paint. I want something more and want to be able to stay on the boat for extended periods. I do stay on my 23.5 for weekends. By the way it is my wife and I, no kids and no pets.Please let me know......ThanksDave

28.5

I had an 87 28.5 for 2 years and traded into a 94 29.5 2 years ago. I liked the layout of the 28.5 but the 29.5 was just bigger in every way. The fellow that bought my 28.5 sails frequently, overnights. and usually outruns me when sailing. The 28.5 is more fun to sail than the 29.5 and handles better downwind. The v-berth is very comfortable, but the head is tight.

I'm really shocked that you haven't received more replys to your inquiry, as there seem to be many happy owners of 28.5s. Count me as one. I've had mine over 4 years and love it. Great boat to single-hand, fast in light airs. Reef it in 15-18mph winds and it sails great. Sails up to 6 easily, lots of room below except in the head as Jim said. We moved up from a 24' full keel boat and love the extra space. These boats were built during some of Hunters best quality years as far as I'm concerned.

I was hoping for more input. But thanks to the both of you. If the only thing about the 28.5 you dislike is the size of the head. Well, it has to be better than a port-a-pottie under the v-berth. Thanks again. I will talking to the seller of the 28.5.Dave
