Oh, that all makes a lot of sense. 2 hours isn't that bad, I drive 1 hour 15 minutes (75 miles) one way to and from work, it's the only way I can live where we do.

I have both a powerboat and sailboat, I love fishing and other watersports etc and they are two different ways to get out on the water. With my long commute I can get home grab my wife, kid, and a cooler and head out onto the bay in the powerboat for a couple of hours and decompress after the workday and long commute.

As far as how often I sail my H30, well I just got it and have only sailed it once, last weekend. I am planning on going out saturday, but that depends on whether my wife goes into labor or not . It's hard to say how much we will get out this season, especially when the baby is still tiny, but with our H25.5 that we got when my other daughter was 6 months I would go out just about any chance I got. It's all going to depend on how our new daughter is.

I too buy just about everything online, but there are always those things that I just can't wait for and the closest places for me are at least 1/2 hour to 45 minutes away, which given that and the time I spend in the store can waste a lot of time.

Knowing your situation better now, if I were in your situation, I think I would go first choice on Mustang Island, 2nd choice Port Aransas if they are reasonably priced. Heck, those facilities, being close to the beach, and boat should keep your wife happier than a run down bargain marina

Hermit,

If your looking at different marinas this is a pretty cool site: http://marinas.com/
It may have some of the marinas you are considering. Here's the page for mine: http://marinas.com/view/marina/13153_The_Log_Pond_Marina_Havre_De_Grace_MD
If you feel like seeing some boats on a mooring you can go here: http://www.tidewatermarina.com/weather.asp It's a webcam from the marina next door to mine. It looks out to the mooring field and over to Perryville. It's fun to check it out on Thursday early evenings for the races. It updates every few minutes.
I know you recently asked about biminis but I have questions about yours - looking at the picture you posted it seems like it may be too far forward. It appears you aren't really protected if you are standing behind the wheel. It's very easy to get way too much sun when sailing. By chance is there a zipper that splits the bimini in the rear to get around the backstay? Also if you need to take down the bimini where do you set the front bow?

Manny- I typed out that very question and then deleted it before I posted it on the thread about the bimini tension. I noticed it was too far forward. The boat was originally tiller steering then converted to wheel. I think the bimini was installed while it was tiller. When the sun hit noon, I had to sit up on the comming (spelling) and hold the wheel from the side to stay out of the sun. I thought the bimini was really large because it covers part of the companionway.
There are no zippers so I can't move it aft. I just put it up for the first time since I had it sewn back together. I haven't tried to take it down since. I had to take it down the first time I motored the boat because it tore down the middle. If you look in my avatar you can see the results of that, kind of messy. I don't know how it's supposed to be done. Maybe someone on here knows.

You could move the mounting points for the bimini support legs aft a bit, but you'd likely have to have the bimini modified so it could go around your backstay. It isn't that big a modification to make, and would allow you to use it while at the wheel.

It is usually zippers, since getting adequate or consistent tension with velcro is very difficult. The only place velcro is generally used is to hold storm flaps shut and the like.
Does any one sew in high quality velcro or is it always zippers?

Hermit, Never seen anything but zippers. Look around for a local guy. We have a guy in Quantico that does mods like that, and he is pretty cheap, but that won't help you in Texas.

We do have a mooring field off of Quantico. Since it is in open waters you really just have to put your own mooring ball in and you are set. I was on one for 3 years until I was able to get a slip in the marina.

Cpt. Jon let us know when she pops. I'd stick with power boats if you are bringing the wife along to make sure you don't have a DIYS birth. Though if you don't have good health insurance might be a good way to save some money. ;)

Haha Scott, no she won't be going out on the boat with me if I go this weekend, and if I go, it won't be far - kinda like out in front of the house. I have a few things I have to do so I don't know if I will get out this weekend or not now. But I'll post some pics when it all happens.
