I have a 15 HP, a lot of motor but the good thing is at motor idle it nearly hits hull speed, so it's quiet and plenty left if needed

9.8 HP Electric Start Tohatsu; powers great into strong headwinds with sails up; helps in getting the sails down and getting rapidly to cover. Some vibration; more than my old 1982 Honda BF75 9 HP pull start, but lots more power and easier to start!

I fractured and screwed up my shoulder and couldn't pull start the outboard for 3 days and neither could Ruth so we sat in a remote side canyon. That was how we came to the conclusion that we needed electric start for safety purposes.
When I was in the market for a new OB I compared quite a few and settled on a Yamaha 9.9 w/ electric start. Then the marina owner suggested power trim so the Admiral could easily lower and start the OB. We're glad we went with the option as now she frequently will take over the starting and stopping of the OB while I do other things.

I would say that's the perfect power, I have a 15hp(old) and yesterday I was caught in a ton of wind sail down and it took a few seconds to get moving, I bet a newer 9.9 would get moving

Update: I purchased the 1988 9.9hp motor. The seller was a former Mac 26 owner. I've used the motor several times and it works great. Normally starts on the first pull and does not drink too much fuel. Now, I have to buy a new mount because I can't lock the current one in any position other than all the way down. Oh, the spending of money never ends :)
