It's a shame to see what the Cup has

been dragged down to.
Just my tow cents worth.

doesn't really float my boat either...

While I am amazed at the boat, it's just not my bag. It's all about the win. Remember when Dennis Connor raced the catamaran, people were up in arms about the travesty. This is the next step.

Dennis Conner started it all

With the catamaran stuff. Now it's in court. So, the next Americas Cup may well be determined by a judge, and have nothing to do with sailing. With no offense intended for the racers on this board, and I don't include the Wed. night beer can racers at all, but IMHO most of the really serious big buck racers are a bunch of snobs anyway.

I can't tow it with a Ford ranger and it probably

won't fit in your canal N&E so we can just leave it to the guys that spend more for one sail than we take home in a year.

That is not a sailboat, it is a one time use team race boat.

And what happens to the 'poor' thing after it is raced? Does Larry Ellison keep it on a trailer in his back yard? Perhaps he could donate it to the tin-can catamaran guy so he can finally get his Darwin award!
How many crew does it take to sail that thing? Can you imagine trying to single-hand it? Yes, of course there is a spinnaker and/or cruising chute.
It can sleep 6 in a relative lack of comfort while the other 6 toil to keep it going. No galley, engine multiple heads to keep the weight down so 'MRE's for breakfast, lunch and dinner and crapping off the back of the trampoline is compulsory while clocking along at 25+ knots!
If this is cutting edge racing (and it is) I am sorry because I just do not get it. This is design by technology but where is the art? Where is the love, man?
Mostly kidding. I am a beer can racer of a boat that costs less than a few of that boats halyards. To each his/her own.

Why?????

Because they can.

I find it an amazing vessel and I'm glad somebody has the loose cash to think outside the box and build such a wild ride. I'm sure the locals thought the J-boats of the early 20th century were outrageous too. There are many awesome videos on youtube of similar euro tri's in France. Unfortunately video(or Virtual Skipper4) will be as close as I'll ever get to a run on one of these bada$$ rides.

By the way, Dennis Connors old Americas cup catamaran is docked a few miles from us in Bradenton Fl and is in use on a regular basis.

Sure wish I could peek into the future of sailing about 100yrs to stretch my budget limited imagination a little.

Race for technology

My understanding is that the very first AC was a race in technology. The Americans figured out how to build a faster boat and beat the pants off of britain. Obviously this is to the extreme but it's the lawyers ruining the sport, not the builders. I would love to see these babys race. I would also like to see the AC use nationalized teams, not just builders.

No offense to any decent attorneys out there.

Future of racing

I agree Tim, A/C with a national team, I'd include the designers as well, it would make the competition more similar to the world cup. Imagine a U.S. team, using U.S. sailors, sailing a boat designed and built in the United States of America. Together we can sail fast..ect. or United we stand/sail...or whatever get a good catch phrase and legal team and off we go!

Please tell Larry to give boat to Lance when finished

Please ask him to put a little extra kevlar on bottom before I take delivery so I can beach it on Egmont. I will supply alma mounted TV projector to watch big screen Cup reruns projected on main sail. A grill, a cooler and a deck mounted pup tent and I would be A-1 ready to go!

Just a little beamy. You'd feel like an ant on a dragonfly.
