I have an update to report for those interested in my experience with Progressive Insurance regarding my claim for damages from Hurricane Charley. Last I posted I called their 1-800 number to file the claim at 6:30 EDT Monday morning. They said someone would call later that afternoon for a brief phone interview and some details. A rep called by 3:30 PM that same day, asked a few basic questions regarding the damage and the location of the boat etc. I answered his questions and also told him that the sail was at my house about 15 miles away. He said an adjuster should be contacting me within 48 hrs. The next day, Tuesday, about 2:00 PM the adjuster called from the marina. He said he needed a few pictures of the boat and to verify the boat's serial number and that he would be at my house within an hour or so to look at the sail. He showed up within an hour, looked at the sail and called it a complete loss. Called Catalina Direct to price a replacement, deducted depreciation and my $100 deductible and wrote me a check on the spot for $972. As far as insurance companies go, I am VERY satisfied with Progressive. The complete process from 1st notification to check-in-hand was less than 36 hrs and the settlement was fair to say the very least. Now, I am posting this information solely for those interested in the services provided by Progressive. I know I've seen several threads regarding questions about such-n-such insurance company and I am only contributing my experience for the sake of those interested.I appreciated the unsolicited opinions from armchair hurricane preparedness gurus after the fact. It all seems so clear now what I would've, could've or should've now that the storm has passed. But when it comes down to it, I did what I thought was enough given the circumstances at the time. By the time it was realized that the storm had greatly exceeded predictions and was turning off its predicted path, I had other priorities to tend to other than a little old plain white sloop.--Greg
