Update on PVC Furler

UPSGUY - I have some photos that show some of the process.
Lay out the sail, cut the pvc and put a coupler at each hank/grommet. I started at the top and zip-tied each sail grommet as I cut/trimmed and placed the coupler so that it is centered on the grommet. The spooler is made out of 2 - 4" pvc caps cut down and slid over the pvc and up against the bottom coupler. The bottom is a coupler and plug and it rests on a SS washer. When everything is fitting good, glue it.
The trick to keeping the zip-tie on the coupler is making a grove and the back side for the zip-tie. The zip-ties are 1/2". I used a simple block attached to the pulpit for the rope guide. The rope/line is the extra line from my "EZ-Jack setup.
Roll up the sail on the pvc and slide the forestay wire down the center of the pvc and attach as you normally would. No halyard is needed. I cut/removed the part of the pvc at the bottom with the notch. It was not needed to adjust the forestay. Try to use the right length pvc at the bottom to line up the spooler with your block.
Clear as mudd?

I tried this a few years ago and the PVC couplers cracked the first time I tried to set it up. Any insights? Seems like an easy thing based upon what I read but my personal experience has resulted in a pile of PVC pipe stored under my shed.

What did you use for the spooler? I saw a website once where the guy used electric wire spools from Lowes. But when I looked into it, the hole was too small for the 1" pipe.
