Im about to start a few projects and if anyone has had experience I would love a couple of tips and tricks...

1. Replacing holding tank due to strong order ...I may start with hoses first and test from there...
2. Wiring from panel to engine....two part wiring system. Engine harness and panel harness...
3. Replace transmission cable and throttle cable...this winer they were getting stuck and red cover is cracking...although some oil and working back and forth loosened it up...I would to be preventative.

#1, you may be better served in the long run throwing it all out, and starting fresh. New plumbing = happy wives.

#2, when you rewire the engine/panel, do away with the plug in the middle. It's a source of consternation, and unnecessary unless you're moving the engine in and out of the boat once a week. If you don't have a good diagram, do it one wire at a time, abandoning the old wire as you go. If you DO have the funny papers, take it out with ruthless preemption. You can make your runs look nicer with the old gone.

#3, if you replace it, tape/tie-wrap the new one to the old one to help "snake" it back where it goes. And keep the old one, it makes a handy "snaker-outer" of clogged up plumbing lines, and unstopping clogged up thru-hulls from inside.

With the head job, I can tell you that the hoses are most likely the cause of the smell. If the hoses feel tacky at all they are the source. My vent line was NASTY! I replaced it and the smell was gone. It was tacky and smell was coming from it.

I would highly suggest trying to do the holding tank last. It could save you some money.
