Unwanted Solar Heat

It gets uncomfortably hot at the coast about 10-15 days a year in SoCal (and those aren't in a row). Open some windows, hatches, etc.
All boats are hot in the summer. In the Chesapeake Bay area where I sail it gets down right nasty in July in August often times. It has always cost me cruising time in the summer because I really don't want to go out on a boat and sweat my butt off in 85-95 degree cabin temperatures.
Last year a warm spell hit right as I left Solomin's Island and it was 100 degrees (this was early June). There was absolutely NO wind. I motored the 50 miles back home trying to hide in every inch of shade that I could find. It was down right miserable.

The OP is in Marina Del Rey. Unless he is in the windshadow of a building, he won't be too hot most of the time. Even in mid summer, past midday the sea breezes start and keep things comfortable. The temps rarely get above the mid 80s even in summer at the water's edge, and usually cooler, and it almost always cools down at night. The Santa Ana winds that are frequent in September can be bad, but most of the time it is quite pleasant.

A suspended awning to cover the deck will do great to keep the insides from getting to much hotter than ambient temperature. Then an A/C unit around 10-15K BTU's depending on the size of the boat should provide comfortable cooling. The unit must be ducted or fans should provide air circulation inside the cabin. Another options may be running to a hotel for those unbearable nights of the year.
