This is the first year I will have the mast unstepped on my 1990 H33.5. It has the older below-deck Hood one-line loop furling. I have owned the boat one year and have never had to maintain the furler, so don't know how the furling line is taken off the drum. I sure don't want the yard to cut the loop, so I am thinking the drum disassembles. I have no manual for this unit, so am looking for any advise.

Gotta Cut It!

If you have the continuous loop furler, and it passes up thru two cuts in the deck, like mine does, then I don't think you have an option other than to cut it. I originally had the SL model. I may still have the old manual. Contact me thru the Owner's Forum and I'll see what I have.

I previously had the drum mounted below deck on my 33.5 but I moved it above deck last time I had the mast down. It's easier to service, seems to foul less, and makes replacement of the line easier since you can buy a pre-spliced line and mount it on the drum. The procedure goes like this: tie off a spare halyard and snug it up tight. Remove the mounting stud on the Hood system. Loosen the allen screw on the lower drum section and slide it down. Pass the loop over the forestay and drum and replace everything in reverse oder.
