I had posted the question a month ago. "How to get the continuous line off the Hood roller furling?" The answers were to cut the line and splice in the Spring. One person said that the loop can be removed without cutting. The yard hauled Water Colors last week, and I told them that I did not want the line cut. "No problem" was the response. I was there to observe the unstepping of the mast, and saw what they did. The mast was secured with their rigging pole, sort of like a crane with a cable and electric winch. They then released the fitting at the bottom of the Hood 810 Furler. There is a cap-head screw and nut holding the tension on the bottom half of the furler. That was loosened, allowing the bottom section to slide down. It was then only a matter of letting the furling ling slip down and around the bottom of the the furling system. With the line off the furler, the bottom section was re-assembled and the unstepping proceeded with no problem. There you go, no problem. I imagine that if you have an extra halyard, you could use it as a support to the bow and release tension on the forstay, allowing you to go through the same routine to release the single-line loop for maintenance or replacement.
