I have just purchased a '93 hunter 23.5. She has had only one owner and is in beautiful,I think, original condition. At the stern ,by the outboard motor mount, there are two wire terminals that are not connected. These wires run and terminate at the battery storage compartment...so, duh, I'm hopping perhaps they attach from the motor to the battery and provide a recharging function. The problem is that I cannot find the connection on the Johnson 5.0 hp Sailmaster (probably a '93). Any thoughts?

Maybe ...........

Brock, You don't say how big (diameter) the wires are but could they be to connect a battery to the starter motor on the outboard ????? Just a thought.

Good guess

I would say that Jerry is correct. My 23.5 has a heavy guage, two-wire cable that connects the battery to the electric starter on my outboard. Does your Johnson Sailmaster have electric starting? If so, you should have a schematic showing where to connect the wires inside the motor housing. If you had a Tohatsu outboard, as I have, I could send you a diagram showing where to make the connections. I don't have a clue for a Johnson. Sorry. Dale
