Hi. I have a new old 1981 O'Day 22 and as you see in photo there is a block attached just above forest attachment. For what it's worth there is a sheave positioned just behind the mainsail sheave on backside of mast. The sheave doesn't project away from mast ad mainsail one days rather it is flush with mast. I am using g that for the jib halyard. However when I raise jib there feels like quite a bit of friction on halyard as it exits sheave. Could that mystery block be for the jib?

I block just above the forestay tang would possibly be for a spinaker halyard, the block the jib halyard block would be positioned just below the forestay tang. I'm not sure what the sheave is that is located just behind the mainsail sheave, but there should be 2 sheaves at the masthead for the main halyard mounted one behind the other with one sticking out slightly ahead of the mast and one slightly aft of the mast, the halyard runs over both to lead it over the top of the mast.

Thanks Sunbird. I wasn't using the sheave on the front! You're a big help!
