Please help me - I recently purchased a very nice O'Day 222 and am trying to identify a cleat/fitting that is not in the product manual or anywhere else I can find. The items lie on both sides of the companionway, they are black, and sit just foreward of the main and jib cleats, more central than the teak railings. They move a bit up and down, but very little. I'd love to know what goes there and their purpose, if anyone could be so kind. Thank you, Gary

get a west marine catalog

most all 'stuff' are in west or sail-net catalogs. get a copy and look at the pictures, you may not still know what the stuff is, but will have a name for it....

power cleat

According to the West Marine catalog, what I am looking at is a PX Powercleating Rope Clutch. The opening on this clutch does not look wide enough for anything but a halyard, so I'm not. It's placement forward of the jib winch makes me think it's only for that purpose as well. Any other thoughts or guesses?

main and jib sheets

that is it, used for main and jib sheets, prob added to ease handling of the sheets rather than using the cleats. welcome to the world of sailing...

cleat happy

Thanks! I used to sail quite a lot, but it's been years, and never seen this type of cleat. Thanks for your help! Gary
