Unknown Boat. Please help!

I have recently been given a boat by means of abandonment. I'm in the process of getting the official documentation and abandonment title taken care of.

In the meantime, I'm trying to research the type of boat I have so that I can look into parts and such. My goal is to put a little TLC into it and have a nice project boat to learn on. There are no distinctive markings and I haven't had any luck finding a HIN.

Below are some pictures I've taken.

The boat is between 19 and 21 feet long. (I stepped it off)

The question is, what do I have on my hands? Does anyone have any idea (best guess) of what make, model, and/or year this boat is?

Could be a 20 footer from the old Coastal Recreation company in the 70's. Maybe an Ensenada 20.

Well, it's not a Chrysler Buccaner, Chrysler 20, Balboa, Venture or Aquarius. I'm out of guesses.

I think my neighbor has the same boat, at least from the looks of it. Hers is an Encenada 20... she said there is another brand name that is basically the same company, she thought it was called San Jose.

It's a San Juan 21, Mk I or Mk II. Not sure which one had the stepped cabin roof and which had the slanted one.

Well whatever it is, my friend, (looks llike the Ensenada 20 to me) you may have a pretty nice boat to fix up... from the pics it appears in pretty good shape...just needs some TLC.

While getting this boat back into shape... I suggest you do not be pre occupied with finding "original" parts. There is no real value in "restoring" an old fiberglass sailboat with original factory parts. In fact, most older sailboats, mine included, have been upgraded and retro-fitted over the years to correct the "original" flaws inherent in most production vessels that are discovered as they age.

My first boat was an Ensenada 20. Good starter boat and there seem to be a good number still in use.
