In an on going effort to solve our over heating problem on our M25 I am going to replace the radiator cap and the thermostat before buying a new heat exchanger. Is the thermostat on the 1986 Universal M25 Diesel engine a Marine part or a standard Kabota part? I believe ours is a 165-degree thermostat and I would like to change it to see if that would help our cooling problem before buying a new heat exchanger. If it is a Kabota part, where is a good place to get it? Thanks Bob

parts

I've had good luck getting advice and parts from a place called Torresen Marine through the web at www.win.net/~torresen/universal Also, make sure you change the impeller. Even though the old one may look good, they loose their stiffness and don't pump as much water as new ones do. A new impeller really makes a difference. Good luck.

Heat exchanger

I recently purchased a 1985 CAT 30. As we were sailing (motoring actually) home from Hingham the engine started running hot. To make a long story short the dealer ended up rerplacing the heat exchanger after cleaning out the old one didn't solve the problem. If you have an older boat with the original heat exchanger and plan on keeping your boat, bite the bullet and replace the heat exchanger, it's worth the peace of mind when off shore and not near a service facility.
