I am in the process of rebuilding my Universal Model 25 diesel engine. Does anyone know if Kubota parts can be substituted for the Universal parts? Also, my block is Model number D-850, cast between 1981 and 1986. Does anyone know the Kubota model number for this casting? ggh

M25 is a Kubota D850

The M25 is a Kubota D850; the only thing Universal did was put on a water cooled exhaust manifold, with exhaust piping and a water injection elbow, a seawater pump plus heat exchanger, a bell housing to mount the gear, and paint it gold. Fairly poor engineering also, in my opinion, as evidenced by the troubles folks have had with the failing alternator brackets, etc. The Kubota parts, as available at agricultural parts outlets, will not only work perfectly, they will be much, much cheaper than teh Universal-labeled parts. Even better, when you cross to the OEM part number for injectors or glow plugs (NGK or Denso), they will be even cheaper. For example (personal experience) - glow plugs, $65 each as Universal, $6.83 each from plugclub.com! I have refurbished my M25 using gaskets, etc., from a Kubota dealer, adn new injectors and replacement glow plugs from internet dealers. I also fabricated a new exhaust pipe and riser from schedule 80 pipe. jv
