Has anyone checked an engine with E001 date code. If you have, what was the serial number and was the fix needed? Any response would be appreciated as mine is a 500 mile round trip and it's not that much fun to get the hoses off.

Jack: Check the two current web sites fr the Catalina 36, Sail net .com and the 36 National web site. Both of them have had extensive reviews of this problem, where it applies, how to find it and how to fix it along with contact names. The service bulletin is also posted on the National web site. It's a good resource so you csn make those traveling times more usful.

Jack, from what you've said, you might be affected

What year & type boat do you have? What engine and engine #? From the way it looks all engines up to Jan 2000 - Date code is E001 (January of 2000) are suspicious. BTW, its a very easy check to see if the collar/sleeve is missing, in fact you don't have to remove the hose's. You can just remove the two bolts on the little "L" hold-down brackets. Then holding the whole Sherwood pump off the engine, hoses and all, just pull it away from the engine and look in.

Here's another useful link from the C34 Association. The C36 Association took the lead in advising owners about the issue. Those of us with similar engines in other boats have also followed through.
