Universal M25XPB Crankcase vent line?

Do others have their crankcase vent line connected directly to the intake manifold or a carved up hose end lined up next to the air intake filter?

I had a service shop look into a question I had about a slight smell of burnt oil or exhaust from the engine while in operation. They made this modification to resolve it. Will know when I try it myself soon.

If it works, I'm curious why it wouldn't be this way from the factory. I can see in the second picture that there is a port available in the intake manifold. Although I don't know whether it is there for this purpose?

connected to the manifold...

Wow, that doesn't look like the M25 I remember in my 1984 Catalina 36! Mine had an intake manifold such that the air filter was vertical, and more towards the aft end of the engine.

I and many others have connected the vent hose to the air intake. Not sure why it wasn't done that way from the factory but it's probably because that's how it's done with Kubota engines in tractors where the smell is not a concern.

That's because it's not an M25.
It's in a C310, and they usually came with M25XPB engines, & as you note, they are very different than an M25.

The original is how all 3 310s in our Marina are setup. I've never smelled anything, maybe because we rarely spend more then a couple of hours on the motor?

My 1980 Yanmar QM15 has the crankcase vent hose connected to a port in the intake casting similar to your new arrangement.

My vent line was installed the same way yours was originally. Never had a problem in 17 years of use. I'd be curious whether the new setup will create too much negative pressure in the crankcase. No need to encourage more blowby.
