Recently had 272le Seven's cabin fill with heavy smoke while motoring ... short story version follows. Got towed back into the dock ... spent half hour finding out that the steel exhaust pipe from the engine had crumbled away. Oday used 1-1/4" steel pipe and cast iron fittings and then wraped it with Fiberglass cloth ... What is under that OK looking cloth 16 years later appears to be rust looking like pipes. See photo. The water injector simply broke apart. Called Westerbeke/Universal ... didn't have a hint on the injector and emailed me the diagrams on the M12 that used some other kind of injector that would not fit the motor space. Called Torrensen ... they had different diagrams that also didn't have the right part, but they did have the exhaust flange from the pipe to the motor which I needed because there was no way I could get the rusted pipe out of the flange with three ft long pipe wrenches. Called Rudy ... he sent me to Apponaug Harbor Marina. That's in my home state of RI. They had the part. Now because Universal and Torrensen didn't have the part, I thought it was a custom part made by Apponaug. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. The injector is Universal #299693 nipple see photo. $34 and UPS 1500 miles south ... Fixed it today ... AND THE MOTOR IS RUNNING 20 degrees COOLER!!! on the water temp gauge.

Thanks

I have never seen this part available anywhere. And I have looked! Had to resort to making one out of threaded hose barb and fittings. I think I'll order one just to have on hand. Do you have any contact information for ordering one?

Nice!

I too, made my own part. I had a muffler shop weld a barbed fitting on a peice of black iron pipe. It actually may have been cheaper. But that excludes all my effort...Thanks for the part# that injector seems to be a regular culprit of either blockage, or corrosion. Always nice to have a spare on hand...

These guys do Universal and Atomic

See link ... But I think the part should be available through Westerbeke or Torrensen ... Just that Apponaug {that's an indian name, a bunch of places in RI have indian names} people seem to know the engines better. At least that's what I feel from this episode. The part was Universal wrapped in the plastic bag just like it was made by them a few months ago. But the real point to the story is that that stupid fiberglass wrap really hides how bad that exhaust manifold really is. But I figure I'll wait at least 10 years before I replace it. Vic "Seven"
