I live in Toronto, Ont.

I'm looking for an Oil Filter to us on my Catalina 310 with a Universal M-25XPB diesel
engine.

Where would you suggest picking some up, in the Toronto Area. Bosch was one suggested.

Cheers

I only use OEM filters. They aren't that much more.

I get mine from Hansen Marine in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Universal Part No. 300209 $16.80

Both NAPA and Kabuta(SP?) tractor dealers stock the filter. Sorry I'm not at the boat where I could give you the exact number.

Many websites have lists of oil filter "equivalents." That's the word to search for.

Our C34 'site has plenty, both in the forum and in the wiki. An auto store is just fine. Baldwin makes good filters, too. And they're usually the same as the OEM who relabel them and mark them up 300%!!!

I use the Fram (Extra duty) which I purchase at tractor supply.... cost about $7.45 (they know how to make filters)

Here is the list

Fram PH3593-A
Kubota #70000-74034
Wix 51357
Purolator Per287

They all will do the job. Wix are supposed to be the Cat's meow, I picked up a bunch online one time for about $5 each.

I have used Fram PH3593A for 10 yrs now changing just before Haulout and just after launch
Most Walmart's around Toronto carry them

The basic orange Fram filters are the only filters I have ever come across that were empty at oil change time!! Most would never even notice this, but I do....

I have come across 3 or 4 orange Fram's empty but that is a high percentage for the number of orange Frams I have come across! This means a failed anti-drainback valve and a longer time period for oil pressure at start up.

I have yet to see any Baldwin, Wix (NAPA GOLD) or even a Fram Tough Guard or better series empty at an oil change.

I would urge folks to consider at least bumping up to the Tough Guard series or preferably a better quality aftermarket filter such as a Wix or Baldwin because on these engines the filters are horizontal and the anti-drainback feature is necessary. The Wix filters are also relabeled as NAPA GOLD...
