Universal M-25 Bracket mounts to motormount

I was going to replace my alternator bracket because I have always had issues with the alternator and was going to use the new bracket that is out. However my bracket is different than anyone I have found on line. The lower part is actually connected to the motor mount with some serious steel. The lower part is not going anywhere, my problem is the top tension bracket is worn out and will flex with pressure. I need a new top tension bracket and I have no clue who made this bracket. I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this bracket? Thanks

I actually have purchased that bracket but to be honest it is flimsy compared to the one I have. If I can not find a tension bracket for it I will have to install it. Hopefully someone will know who made this one and I can still get the part. thanks for your response though.

Yours sounds home made. Get us a pic and perhsp we can identify it.. Perhaps the old one broke and the boat yard made a new one from "Scratch"...

I am starting to think that it might be home-made as well. I guess putting the new bracket on might make sense. At least it is a known and should line the sprockets up to keep from eating belts.

One of the threads in this topic discusses a previous poster on another forum who said: "I have it, but should I put it on?"

I agree with Maine Sail, send us a picture and we can tell if you have the old style, although given these links you should be able to figure it out yourself.

You asked for photos and I have them. This appears to be a stock mounting bracket. Please note that it has the engine model number on it KU8 0850 This is not homemade, not with that number on it and you can see it was not welded, it is part of the motor mount. This is the original engine and I have never seen a bracket like this one. Anyone have any ideas because I really need a top tension bracket. Also, I know the line of thinking is I should just change out to the new bracket but seeing how sturdy this bracket looks do you still feel that way. Also I am not sure I would not have to cut the lower bracket away to have room for the new bracket. Thoughts?

Lucky me

jwh, I've never seen that ever before, even on many other boating forums.

For your top bracket, you could try this:

So you can understand my confusion, and it is a solid bracket that is not going anywhere. It looks factory which leads to the question why did they stop using them. I think I am going to take the upper arm to a machine shop. Then if I continue to have issues cut the old one and install the new one. 'Thanks for your time.
