I am going to steam clean my Universal engine and the bilge. Does anyone have a source for the gold paint used on the engine? I would like to touch it up and cannot find a heat resistant paint that is even close to the color. The boat is a 1986 C30tr. Thanks for any help anyone can give. John

Thats a Great Question

I wish someone would chime in who has located the gold paint, because I cannnot find it either. Plenty of 1200+ F heat resistant colors, but not gold! Thanks Cat 30

Some posted that the M-18 Universal was painted with General Motors #286 - "Camel" (gold).

Universal Engine Paint

Not sure, but think the paint is actually bronze. Marine Diesel Direct has this... http://www.marinedieseldirect.com/universal/shopping/details.php?mfc=Universal&sku=285193&prod_name=PAINT,BRONZE%20AEROSOL

Bronze Paint

I bought the "Universal Bronze" from MarineDieselDirect. It had a real "Universal" label on the can. Interestingly, the "gold" color on the 1988 M25XP in a C30 did not match the bronze in the can. However, the color under the gold on the exhaust manifold (and the color on the M25 s/n sticker) matched the can exactly. The color under the rest of the enging was Kubota Blue. So, apparently, a gold and a bronze were used at the factory simultaneously. The can has a lot of paint in it, though they are expensive. I did the entire engine with two cans, with paint left over.
