It's been this way since I bought the boat. Engine is Universal M-18.
Sometimes the tach reads accurate. Sometimes it reads 2\3 of actual, which I can live with just doing the easy math. I'm guessing a bad diode there.
However, much of the time it's pegged to max, even at idle.
I've had the panel out, and found the connections pristine. I did wiggle the wires and found one that would make the tach needle jump a little, but again the wire looked new.
Anyone had this?
It's not a big deal; I know the engine speed based on the sound and vibration frequency - It's a 2 cyl with a distinct song. But, I would like for all my gear to work properly, including the tach.
