Universal diesel 11 hp

I need some help from the seasoned sailors out there. I am interested in a catalina with the 11 hp and i would like to know, what kind of time between overhauls can I expect to get out of this engine, with it haveing deceint maintaince. Thanks

If you keep the fuel clean and change the oil on a regular basis your little engine will run for many, many years. You will probabley sell the boat before you need to overhaul. You should make it a habit of running it for all it's worth once in a while, it will thank you for it. How many hours does it have now?

11 hp universal

I have had this present boat for 8 years and have never had it overhauled. I am very committed to very frequent oil and filter changes(these are the cheapest maintainence you will do).Mine is raw water cooled so I tapped a line into the freshwater tank ,and added a few valves ($20.00),this enables me to run fresh water thru the engine and rinse it out then leave the fresh water in it until the next week end. Other than new impeller I have not need any parts ,and it runs great. GOOD LUCK

Keeps on ticking

Had the universal 11hp in my 1982 catalina 30. Bought the boat used, owned it for 4 years before selling up. Great little engine. I changed oil every 50 hrs or once per year whichever came first.

The boat is used for charter and the engine has 2300 hrs on it.It appears to be well cared for.
