Hello to all, I had to replace a leaking rear oil seal in my Universal 5411 Diesel. There are two oil seals a larger one around the crankshaft and a smaller one approx 1" dia. that fits in the end of the shaft in front of a bearing. Part no. 18 (299949) shown in the Piston Crankshaft Group.(Marine Diesel Direct) The smaller oil seal is a shaft seal but there is no shaft that engages it. What is this seal used for? Was it for a different application or use of this engine? The engine is coupled to a Hurth transmission that engages a damper plate on the outside of the flywheel short of this seal. My fear is an oil leak once everything is back in place from something I missed. Any direction or help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Joe, Catalina 30 owner
