In general for a Cat 30 is a universal model 25(25 hrspower) with higher hrs(1800 hrs) better than a universal 5411 (11 hrspower) with 900 hrs.

Yup

2 main reasons the 25 is better. 1) the 5411 is raw water cooled & the 25 has a heat exchanger. 2) more power: I had the 5411, & it was underpowered for the beamy C30 hull.

The M25 engine is NOT 25 hp it is only

21 HP, but more than enough to power our 1986 C34! The freshwater cooling is a plus (except for when you have to repair the HX - but it's easy). Both engines will require repairs for the exhaust riser & connection to the flange at the manifold.

Stu...not true

My M25XPB is rated at 28 horsepower. It's a 3 cylinder so I have no reason to disbelieve the specs.

The M25 and M25XP engines are different

horsepowers, essentially the same 3 cylinder engines, but the XP has more HP, has the newer alternator bracket standard and the 3 inch HX. They are NOT the same engines, although to the untrained eye they seem to look alike. There are also a series of XP and XPBs, maybe even with an XPA in there somewhere. :) It is a common misconception that the M25 stands for 25 HP. That's still just plain wrong.

More HP confusion

To add to the confusion: my M25XP is rated 23 HP....... So long as the engine is well maintained, 1800 hrs will leave you plenty of useful life.
