My old 5411 needs a new exhaust part that is located just aft of the manifold. It is where the exhaust is mixed with the cooling water. My understanding is that these were made of steel & rust out after several years. I searched the archives but didn't find a good explenation of how to remove & replace. I did get the feeling like it is a common occurence. Can anyone share their experience with this kind of job (to the mechanically fearful)? and where to get a replacement?

Exhaust parts 5411

I recently had the opportunity to do the same thing. The exhaust on my 5411 in a catalina 30 was constructed of 1.5 inch galvanized pipe. Your local plumbing supply store should have everything you need with the exception of the exhaust rapping. Just remove the old one and buy the same fittings {elbows, tees, and reducers }. About $30-$40 worth . It all looks scary but is not. Remember to cut of the raw water intake before you start.

Black iron pipe.

Think I read somewhere to use black iron, not galvanized. Galvanized gives off harmfull gas when heated.
