My (new to me) 1994 Catalina 30 (#6242) is running hot 210 degrees at 2500 rpm's. New hoses, sea strainer, new 160 thermostat and new impeller on a Sherwood. If I lower RPM's temp drops down to normal. Removed heat exchanger and took it to my local radiator shop to "Hot Tank". Apparently they don't do that anymore. They do something called "Vibrasonic cleaning". Nice job but not perfect ... I still ran a tool down each port to make sure it was clean. $120. for the job including soldering brackets back on, pressure testing and gaskets. I will let you know if it works after sea trials...

Well I put the cleaned out heat exchanger on and tested this weekend. It runs 30 degrees cooler! I was running around 180 degrees at 2700 rpm's and temp dropped down to 160 very quickly as I dropped rpm's. Success!

Jumping in here... My M-25XP runs cool until anything over 2300 RPMs. The gauge (if it's right) shows 160 or so at 2300 and if I run it faster it slowly (very slowly) will go up in temp. I've never run it long enough at higher RPMs to see if it goes up to 180 or higher.
Is that normal for you?

Jonelli That sounds perfectly normal and I have been watching mine like a hawk over the last year. I would increase rpms. You will see it cools fairly quickly as you back off rpms. If rises above 195 I would consider cleaning heat exchanger

Switch to the Oberdorfer pump and stay at a constant 160. I was never running at 210 but would get to 190 when motoring over 2000 rpm. Did everything you did then switched the pump and have never ran over 165 yet. That was 3 years ago.
