Unidentified Sail

I recently purchased a sunfish sailboat, it came with some extra items, it is obvious this sail does not belong to a sunfish, there is a blue M sailboat logo and decals of C 99 on the sail as well as the hardware pictured. The sail measures 15 feet from the base to top, I have been trying to figure out what this goes to, any help would be greatly appreciated

Your “up close and personal” photos make this a little like the blind men and the elephant. Each part tells us something, but the whole is difficult to understand. Is the M a sailmaker’s logo or a class insignia? Where is the C 99 positioned? Which edges of the sail are we looking at, the luff or the foot?
It is strange to see a sail slide and what looks like a sail slug on the same sail. The slug also looks like it is mounted sideways, and is not symmetrical, so perhaps it was added later and isn’t supposed to function as a slide at all, but as an attachment point for something, perhaps like a Cunningham. Without seeing the whole, it is all just shooting in the dark. Based on the amount of corrosion on the grommets and the fact that you don’t have the spars, it would appear that this sail might be really good for raking leaves or catching paint drips.

Paul, thank you for the reply, please see attached photos of, "full elephant". I'm guessing the M logo is a sail manufactures mark but i am not 100%, after taking a closer look i noticed the front of the sail is not perfectly vertical, as you can see it angles back, i'm not sure if that provides any additional clues, the C 99 is noted on both sides, the M logo only appears on one side, thanks

The "M" font reminds me of the early Morgan font. The position on the sail is appropriate for a sailmaker logo.
The capital C is a class emblem for...... ? and the number then would be the "one design" number, as in hull # 99.
So, did Morgan ever market sails?
It's all an interesting mystery!

Hmmm? Cadet (dinghy) - Wikipedia
About the right size, but #99 would hopefully have been built sometime in the 1950’s if the design was made in 1947. That would have been well before dacron sails. A newer (1960’s-70’s) sail for an older boat, perhaps? There may be other dinghies or catboats that start with “C”. It is not likely to be from a Contender.

I thought Cadet as well, sail numbers don't mean anything that could have been a club series or you in fact can put any number you want on a sail.. I think the logo might be Musto I believe they used to make sails.

Yes he did make sails at one point. So I think the logo is in fact Musto and Hyde

The angle along the luff at the grommet without a slide makes it look like the sail is designed for a gaff. Strange to see the slides along the gaff portion as well but it could be possible. The only plain "C" sail logo I can find is for Caliber but I don't know if they ever made dinghies.

Do you have dimensions for the sail? The cadet for instance is small designed for 2 10 year olds.
