Sounds like where your holding tank goes. Pictures would help a great deal.

yes it's where the holding tank goes. I suggest you not remove it. It's a great platform to build upon for a larger holding tank.

Yes -- V berth. Bought her 1 month ago. Sailed ICW and ocean twice. In and out of inlets. Must watch tides. The holding tank is sitting on top the the wooden box. I will leave well enough alone. While up there I noticed the holding tank off shore dump valve has green oxidation on it. Thought of wire brushing and putting anti oxident on until can haul and check out closer. Electrical or dissimilar metals. Any ideas welcome.

Our 272 has 2 x 2 wooden pieces that keep the holding tank in place in rough weather...I may be wrong, but I don't believe it is really a box...just a frame designed to keep the tank in place when healing over or in rough seas.

The valve you refer to is a ball valve and the green color is probably normal for bronze materials. Do you have a threaded thru hull then a ball valve screwed to that? Or it could be a real seacock but O'Day didn't seem to use that option. I doubt you have a dissimilar metal problem most likely just normal corrosion of bronze, clean it up and see how it is getting wet. If the through hull is leaking you need to fix it. If the valve is leaking you could be leaking holding tank stuff into your boat, nasty.
