Thanx for the kind words; Honeyman

Once we hand over day-to-day coordination of Project MARC to a younger generation (presumably towards the end of 2008) my wife and I may well find time to write some "Rivendel II" adventures down; e.g. for Knotline. As the admiral is the better writer, I may have to come up with a proper bribe first. Several months of cris-crossing the Vanuatu archipelago might just be the ticket as we never found time for that yet. Moreover, it will give us a chance to revisit some of the villages our teams pulled out off several years ago. Fair winds, Flying Dutchman

Henk

Henk, please give me a call arbckb@wowway.com. I have a '92 Legend 43 with unfulfilled dreams of cruises to Hawaii ( a long way from Lake Erie) and am interested in what modifications you did to your boat. Art

Seathumper...

somewhere here in the archives, Henk has posted article(s) about his modifications along with labeled pictures that were very informational. I'll try and research and link when time allows. He has some great stories and factual information from 1st hand involvement with the subject matter!!!

For what it is worth, of the big 3 (Hunter, Beneteau, Catalina) Hunter is the only manufacturer who builds in compliance with NMMA & ABYC standards. See web link from Discover Boating

Not so sure that's very meaningful when you look at other mfgs that are not certified such as hylas, Moody, Gozzard, Swan, etc... By the way, Catalina is a certified builder and on their list.

Seathumper, also look up Paul Cossman

in the HOW archives. Paul took his Passage 42 to New Zealand and back, whereas Rivendel II (our Legend 43 with the same hull as the P42 but aft instead of center cocpit) used Queensland, Australia as the turning point before spending the next 7 seasons in Melanesia (Vanuatu, Fiji). With proper preparation, your P42 can certainly do it (but perhaps not as long as the skipper still has doubts......) Fair winds! Flying Dutchman

Thanks

Thanks, I will see what I can find. By the by, I have a '92 Legend 43 and not a P42 though I understand that they have the same hull. With their different deck configurations, I imagine alterations such as a second head stay would be put in differently. It is always exciting to dream and to sometimes live those dreams vicariously through you guys. Please keep it up. Art

Don: You are abhsolutely right--Catalina is on the list. I think it is limited to US builders as both the ABYC & NMMA are US based organizations. None of those high quality boats you mention are built in the US.

Hunter 36

Congratulations on your 36'. I read all these posts about the different production boats. My wife and I fell in love with the Tartan's at Annapolis boat show. We ended up buying a Hunter 340 in 1998, that was featured at the Boston Boat show. We shipped it back to Lake Michigan and sailed it for 5 years, sold it as we moved to Texas. We have since purchased a Hunter 426DS. We love it, from the minute they introduced it. Beneteau, Catalina, Hunter. There is someone for everyone. My wife loves our boat, true it is a floating condo, but still does sail pretty well and we live on it part of the year. We like the Hunter for the room, they are not afraid to try new things and the comfort. But the we all just want to be taken care of with whatever we buy. Hunter dealers have taken great care of us and because of all the above, we are repeat Hunter owners. Chris "Festina Tarde" Hunter 426DS
