I replaced mine two years ago with the same transducer on my ST50 instruments on my H410. calibration was a bit tricky. but its works awesome. no more clogged paddle wheels, highly accurate. wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

What made the calibration so tricky? Was it the setup procedure within the instrument or transducer? My major gripe with the paddlewheel transducer is that it doesn't give the same reading on opposite tacks. The present location of the transducer is angled about 10 degrees to port. I was planning on changing the location to place it on the centerline of the boat so that it angles straight down. Instead of relocating the existing transducer I thought that the ultrasonic transducer might work better even though it's angled to port. Any thoughts about that? Plus it would be nice not to have to deal with a fouled paddlewheel in the middle of a race. Thanks for your comments.

it was the instruments setup I found difficult. its not a linear calibration, at least on my ST50's.
my trasncducer is slightly to starboard in front of the keel. I thinks that's done to reduce turbulence at the transducer from the keel. I don't race so I can't attest to the difference in speed port/starboard tack. I'm on MA Bay so the currents are always something to contend with. I'm on a mooring and the transducer will pick up 0.1-0.2 knots of current as it ebbs and flows. course it will pick up higher readings also. so depending on currents, I'm quite sure that any differences in boat speed on different tacks would be because of current conditions.
also I had a conversation with a tech at Airmar and the transducer reads the SOW relatively close to the hull, so again doubt moving it will do you much good. I'd think it would be far more important to insure the orientation of the transducer is correct to the boat. I think you'd be very happy with the transducer.
