These have been around in one shape or form for a long time. This is snake oil technology and there is absolutely no independent testing that shows it works and the science just does not support it. Chuck
Ultrasonics do in fact have some merit for antifouling.
In any liquid system bacteria and other microorganisms will not 'attach' to surfaces if the velocity of the fluid is greater than about 8-9 ft. per second - thats why 'raging rapids' are usually quite 'clean' and free of 'growth'. The ultrasonic action would impart such velocity (vibration) to the organism.
I prefer to keep my hull clean by - sailing it. :-O
Practical Sailor did a test of this a few years back and, as I recall, found that it works right under the transducer like Rich says, but just inches away, there was some pretty good fouling.. Good concept but can't be practically executed..
