I'm refinishing the sole of my O'Day 302. I hear great things about Ultimate Sole. Here's my question: Will the finish work on it's own. Do you really need to buy the sanding sealer... and the cleaner... and the finish -- or can you simply use a normal tack rag and then some acetone or mineral spirits and then apply just the finish to properly prepared wood? Thanks for any advice from those of you who have used Ultimate Sole. Steve

I used it.

Make sure you give it enoung time to dry completly before you add another coat. It is more than the time they say on the instructions. I would recommend 24 hours at 80 degrees. You don't want to sand your flors too much. I don't know about ODay but Catalina's soles are finger nail thick. Sand to much and you into the plywood. They recommend a light sand with wet paper and a good cleaning. If you are taking the floor out make sure the bottom is protected too. Is used Ultimate Sole on the bottom too. T

Didn't use Ultimate Sole..

But, I would recommend using a sanding sealer with any product. The sanding sealer is much thinner and allows the first coat (I used 2) to penetrate much deeper. Many people will advocate using a high quality brush for applying. I used a sponge brush on my teak and holly floors and they came out great. I used Olympic products - I could not justify spending sooo.. much extra for a hype'd product such as Ultimate Sole.

Call them or visit the web site. You don't need anything except the US itself...there are alternatives to the other things...they will tell you what to get if you ask. BTW, it works and looks great.
